Urszula Kryger is one of the most recognised Polish vocalists. She graduated from the Academy of Music in Łódź (piano and vocal studies). She has participated in numerous international music competitions, receiving the highest prizes. Her greatest successes include victories in the 1st International Stanisław Moniuszko Competition for Young Vocalists in Warsaw (1992), the 6th International Johannes Brahms Vocal Competition in Hamburg (1994) and in the 43rd International ARD Music Competition in Munich (1994). Since then, her career has been accompanied by an unflagging interest of music lovers and critics.
In 1995, she performed a recital of songs by Fryderyk Chopin at the Milan La Scala. A year later, she made her debut on the stage of the Semper Oper in Dresden in the part of Angelina in the opera La Cenerentola by Gioacchino Rossini, which proved to be a great success. Polish and international audiences have often had the opportunity to admire her creations in oratorio works performed under such outstanding maestros as Jan Krenz, Jerzy Semkow, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Sir Colin Davis or Armin Jordan.
She pays a particular attention to chamber music – her song interpretation art combines perfection with extraordinary naturalness, which is appreciated by the musicians with whom she performs, including outstanding pianists and instrumentalists.
Urszula Kryger has made many recordings for radio stations and record companies such as DECCA, DUX, Hyperion or Cannel Classics. Seven of them have won a Fryderyk – the award of the Polish Phonographic Academy. The artist has also been recognised with an award of the Karol Szymanowski Foundation for her thoughtful and highly artistic interpretations of the composer’s songs.
Urszula Kryger is also a teacher. The artist conducts numerous masterclasses. She is a professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź.
