Recognised by critics as one of the most outstanding contemporary flute virtuosos, the most awarded Polish flautist. Winner of several dozen prestigious competitions, including in Paris, Munich and Odense. For the Flute Stories album, Pizzicato hailed him as one of the greatest flautists in the world. In 2010, he made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed at the most famous venues, for example, Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein Goldener Saal and Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Gasteig Carl-Orff-Saal and Herkulessaal in Munich, the Poly Theatre in Beijing, the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou, the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Opera House in Qatar. The artist has played under the baton of such stars as Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Mariss Jansons, Jesús López Cobos, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jan Krenz, Jerzy Semkow and Gabriel Chmura. He was often invited to perform Krzysztof Penderecki’s flute concerto under the baton of the composer himself.
He has recorded sixty-eight albums, distinguished with many prestigious recording awards, including ICMA, Pizzicato Supersonic Award and Fryderyk. His concerts have been broadcast by BBC Radio 3, NDR, SWR, BR4, Mezzo, Deutschland Radio Kultur, Polskie Radio 2, Radio France or RMF Classic. Over three hundred compositions have been dedicated to him by outstanding creators. Together with his wife Agata Kielar-Długosz, he has created an innovative project flautoforte.pl consisting in commissioning, premiering, recording and sharing Polish contemporary flute music (www.flautoforte.pl).
The flautist has received numerous awards for his remarkable cultural activities and for the promotion of Polish culture, including an award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, Gasteig Musikpreis, Zeit-Preis. He has been honoured with a Silver Medal ‘For Merit to Culture Gloria Artis’, an ‘Orpheus’ of the Association of Polish Musical Artists and an Honorary Award of the Polish Composers’ Union. In 2019, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the title of Professor of Art and decorated him with the honourable Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
