The Sixteen: Heavenly harmonies

November 18 @ 19:30

The surviving works of composers active in the centers of 16th- and 17th-century Poland are primarily religious works. They were performed during liturgies held with Polish kings in Cracow’s Wawel Cathedral and Warsaw’s Collegiate Church of St. John the Baptist. Pieces for these occasions were written mainly by musicians of the royal band, including Italians, who willingly shared their talents with local artists. One and the other illustrated with their music the ideas of heavenly harmony of the time.
